R.K Narayan, the person behind the origination of Malgudi Days, an Indian writer who earned huge recognition from this entertaining and fun loving sets of short stories.
R.K Narayan – One of the names still stored in a corner of our mind, when someone takes the name of Malgudi Days, the first thing, which hits my mind, is the starting tune – the melodious and harmonious.
It’s us who has to add some spice and bright colors in our life.

Origin of Malgudi
Malgudi – This word was made up with a collaboration of two cities of Bangalore, one is Malleshwaram from, which the initial letters “Mal” was picked and the other one is Basavanagudi from, which the last few letters “Gudi” was taken, thus the word Malgudi was finally established.
In this highly modified era, have we forgotten the days, when we use to sit for hours with our friends and family and watch the exciting serials on Doordarshan?
I hope we have not – allow me to take you back in the days of 1987 that was the year in, which the first episode of Malgudi Days was telecasted.
Swami and Friends – Malgudi Days
Do you remember a story in, which there was this character named Swami, a 10 year old boy – a fun loving kid who used to skip or bunk his school and stroll around the streets of Malgudi for hours with his friends – Mani and Rajam.
Swami use to adore his grandmother – he was really close to her; they both shared a great bond. After playing all day long, he used to rush back to his grandmother and share the adventurous stories.

The Sarayu River – Malgudi Days
And it did start, Malgudi is situated on the banks of the Sarayu River. A place, which was once filled with the laughter and chuckles of Swami and his two friends – Rajam and Mani. This was their evening spot, where they all use to sit for hours and crack some really silly jokes and make fun of each other.
I mean seriously, don’t you feel that those were the best days of life – I know we all do.
Bustling streets and Neighborhoods – Malgudi Days
Kabir Street once served as a home to the best of Malgudi and the market streets, the heart of Malgudi.
Buildings – Malgudi Days
Let’s hear about the building, which dates back to the time of 1935. The Palace Talkies, which was a replacement of the Old Variety Hall.

At last, I would like to share some lines spoken by R.K Narayan regarding his discovering of Malgudi (reference wikipedia):
“Malgudi was an earth- Shaking discovery for me because I had no mind or facts and things like that, which would be necessary in writing about Malgudi or any real place. I first pictured not my town but just the railway station, which was a small platform with a banyan tree, a station master and two trains a day, one coming and one going. On Vijayadasami, I sat down and wrote the first sentence about my town: The train had just arrived in Malgudi Station.”
